I am Professor of AI at the University of Edinburgh where I also head up the Bayes Centre, the University’s Data Science and AI innovation hub. My research is in multiagent systems, developing architectures and algorithms for agents that plan, learn, and communicate with each other using an eclectic mix of methods, from symbolic and game-theoretic AI to machine learning. In recent years, the focus of my work has been on ethical AI, designing systems that support transparency, accountability, fairness, and diversity-awareness, and collaborating extensively with social scientists, human factors experts and users of real-world AI systems.
