Dr. Wei Pang MIET

Dr Wei Pang received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Aberdeen, U.K. in 2009. He is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Previously, he was an Honorary Senior Lecturer (2020-2021), Senior Lecturer (2017-2019), Lecturer (2012-2017), and Research Fellow (2009-2012) from the University of Aberdeen

His research interests include bio-inspired computing, machine learning (e.g., deep learning, autoML), qualitative reasoning, and most recently, explainable and accountable AI. He is particularly interested in applying bio-inspired approaches to develop novel machine learning and data mining algorithms. He has authored over 150 publications, and his research has been funded by EPSRC, ESRC, Royal Society, Royal Society of Edinburgh, and Cancer Research UK. He is currently leading the BCML lab at Heriot-Watt
