Children's Voices in AI & Robotics: Forging an Inclusive Future

Join us to hear from the Children’s Parliament, where they’ll be sharing outcomes from their participatory engagement project with school children.

Since August 2022, the Children’s Parliament has been exploring the intersections of children’s human rights and AI development, use, and regulation in Scotland. We believe this was the first time children have been consulted on AI development nationally in Scotland.

Across their in-depth work with four key schools and 13 Investigator MCPs (Members of Children’s Parliament), they found that children had received little education on AI concepts and use. They might have access to devices that use AI in their personal lives (although this varied across a range of circumstances) but they didn’t often understand the full extent of its usage and potential impact on their lives. This meant that they didn’t always have the agency to be active users of AI and were reliant on the adults around them to provide guidance and instructions.

The team were struck by the ideas and concepts that the children repeatedly shared with us and in this session will be sharing calls to actions from the children to consider when conducting future research projects.

Lunch will be provided throughout the session and we will have an artist live drawing the conversations!
